Earthship Philadelphia
Michael Reynolds founder and creator of the Earthship concept, came to Taos, after graduating from Architecture School in 1969. Inspired by television news stories about the problem of trash and the lack of affordable housing, Earthships were born. Earthships incorporate many natural and reclaimed materials in their construction. Tires are the perfect form for a rammed-earth brick. There’s no shortage of used tires—at least 2.5 billion are currently stockpiled in the United States, with 2.5 million more discarded every year. LoveLovingLove Inc., is working to bring the first Earthship in an urban environmentto Philadelphia in a low income neighborhood, to show its viable use as sustainable affordable housing.    source: earthship.com
